The Municipal Building is an excellent example of the Internationl Style, as reflected in its flat roof, ribbons of windows, emphasis of volume, and the windowless expanse of stonework on the original entry bay. Charles G. Buckingham was born at Van Wert, Ohio, in 1846. He left Kenyon College, Ohio, in his sophomore year due to health problems and worked for 6 months at the First National Bank of Van Wert. He moved to Colorado in 1870 with Dr. Charles Emerson to join the Union Colony in Greeley. With H. T. West, the men established the banking firm of Emerson, West and Buckingham.
